Get outside of work

Go get a drink. Go to dinner. Do a fun activity together. Meet with your employees outside of work. It’s important to see them in an environment besides work.

Ask them what they like to do besides work. Ask them what they think you can improve upon. Figure out what they like and dislike about their job. Be there to help solve problems that they’re having.

Try and do this in a one on one format. It helps you really figure out what drives them. Try not to talk about work. Ask what their ultimate goals are. Where they would like to be in 5 or 10 years. Don’t get upset when it’s not with your company.

Maybe they want to start their own business. Maybe it’s to move up in the ranks. Maybe they want to be in your position one day. Maybe they want to live in another country.

Let them know what your goals are too. They don’t have to be related to work, they can be more personal.

Maybe it’s having kids. Maybe getting married. Maybe it’s making $100,000. Whatever it may be respect whatever they’re striving for. React in a positive way. Let them know you love that they’re striving to become better.

Works important but life isn’t all about work. We all have dreams. We have ambitions. We all have a drive for more. The drive for success. Figure out what really drives your employees.

We all have lives outside of work. Figure out what your employees really want. It makes them feel wanted and needed. They appreciate the praise. They will appreciate the attention. Let them know you’re grateful to have them on the team.

Don’t just look at them as another number but more as an important asset to your team. If you convey your respect for them and show them how important they are, they’ll work harder and produce better results.

Remember, it has to be genuine though. Genuinely care for your employees and they’ll strive to win for the team, not just for themselves.
