To take the next step. To go from being average to great. You know what you have to do.
You also know it’s not easy. It will make you feel uncomfortable. You might be embarrassed on your first try but you know it’s needed.
It’s the only way to take the next step.
If you want to be great at a certain skill you can’t keep doing what you’ve always done. That hasn’t gotten you to your goals yet and it won’t.
You have to try something different. Something hard and strange.
Don’t worry about what you’ll look like or what people will think of you. The best way to learn is to push yourself outside of your perceived limits.
You know you have to do this, so why are you waiting?
Is it fear of embarrassment or of failure or of the unknown?
Whatever it may be it’s the best way to get you to your goal.
It’s the necessary next step you have to take. If you’re training for a marathon you have to run the long runs to improve your endurance. Without the long runs, you’ll never hit your desired goal.
If you’re learning a language you have start speaking in your desired language with others. If you don’t, you’ll never get better at speaking and listening in your foreign language.
You know the necessary steps you have to take to get better. Take that one step and then push yourself again and again until you’ve reached your goal.
Go take the necessary next steps before your goals turn into regrets.
“Do the difficult things while they are easy and do the great things while they are small. A journey of a thousand miles must begin with a single step.” -Lao Tzu
